James Wilson
JAMES WILSON. 12" illuminated, raised relief, antique ocean, tabletop globe. Aristocratic grandeur. This stately desktop globe evokes the mapmaking craftsmanship of the early 19th Century, when cartographer James Wilson, the father of American globe-making, taught himself how to create a globe much like this one. Details like the lustrous hardwood cradle, full die-cast meridian, and antique styling harken back to Wilson's most famous creations. The globe is firmly rooted in the modern age, though, with up-to-date countries and boundaries, a raised-relief surface to simulate mountain ranges, and even an internal light. Just flip a switch to light the globe from within, which amply illuminates the globe’s surface without glare. The mellow antique design and full die-cast meridian add to the Old World effect. A moveable disk at the top of the globe allows for easy calculation of time in different time zones. Twenty-five-watt bulb (included) is easy to replace. Diameter 12" (30 cms.), height 17" (43 cms.) #83703: weight 9.3 lbs. (4.2 kgs.)
